2007-2008 Pack 313 Wrap up
12 08 2008Thanks to all the scouts and leaders for another fun and successful year. The peak of the year was the 2007 Centennial Quality Unit Award with momentum to repeat this achievement in 2008. This summer we had a presence not only at the cub resident camp for 2nd and 3rd grade boys but we also attended the webelos resident camp (4th and 5th grade boys) for the first time in many years. We really should be proud of the quality cub scout program that wouldn’t be possible without everyone’s participation.

October Camping Trip
13 10 2007The October camping trip was a gret success. Most of the scouts arrived on Saturday. Once campsite setup was complete Vince Vetter taught the boys a little about map reading and compass usage. Then the boys took a 2 1/2 mile hike through the Clifty Falls State Park. The boys saw both Little Clifty Falls and Big Clifty Falls as well as Cake Rock. The was a large rock formation with a crevice in it that the boys were able to climb through. It was a very hot afternoon and the hike was long but the boys really seemed to enjoy it.
After the hike we all went to the Nature Center where the boys got to enjoy some air conditioning and play some of the games in the center. There was also a nice Bird Blind to view the local birds up close.
Once we had worn out our welcome in the Nature Center everyone hiked over to the Observation Tower and got a bird’s eye view of the Madison, IN area.
Cindy Brown lead an excellent knot tying activity for the boys while Chris Vale, Lloyd Brown, and Jon Grief cooked dinner for the boys (hotdogs, baked beans, and potato chips).
The remainder of the evening consisted of the camp fire and cooking smores followed by the boys playing and looking for raccoons the rest of the night. Everyone turned in pretty early, around 9:30 pm.
The weekend went great and it seemed that all involved had an excellent time. It was attended by the Vales, Hubbs, Griefs, Gruneisens, Creeks, Prides, Browns, Vetters, Hamms, and Simmons.
